Furnace Operator

Location: Beaver Dam, WI

Furnace Operator:

Job Summary: To assure iron is ready and available for molding lines and to maintain raw material supplies and various iron vessels.

Scope: All personnel of the Melt Department directly report to the Melt Department Supervisor and coordinate closely with molding line Supervisor and pourers.

Primary Job Duties: 

  1. Operate the necessary furnace equipment to melt raw iron to proper pouring temperatures and within quality specifications.
  2. Fill ladles for pourers in accordance to production schedule and customer requirements to assure quality standards are met
  3. Work with supervisory and management personnel to help identify and reduce incidents of scrap.
  4. Train to and be able to complete tasks as outlined on attached training checklist

Primary Departmental Duties:

  1. Operate all equipment in a safe and responsible manner, report safety concerns to your Supervisor or Safety Committee Representative and maintain a clean and safe work area.
  2. Maintain appropriate attendance record.
  3. Assist in training new employees that enter the department.

Competencies:

            Education:      

                        High School Diploma, HSED, GED or solid work history

            Training:

                        No specific prior training required for this position

                        Will train in foundry specific safety issues

                        Will train in industry specific business issues

                        Will train in machine operation specific issues

            Experience:

                        Prior work in a production or process driven environment

            Skills:

                        Must be able to read

                        Simple math computation

                        Mechanical aptitude

                        Practical Communication
